Hyderabad’s first Smart City Solution
March 25, 2015 - 4 minutes read‘Smart City’ has been amongst the most commonly used terms ever since Modi has been elected PM of India. The term itself has created a wild imagination amongst the citizens of the country, and this has resulted in many definitions of what a Smart City is and could be. The media and public imagination is no less than a science fiction movie (read Star Wars or Krish), only electric transportation, IOT (internet of things) connectivity of all devices and public systems, green buildings, no slums, and the list goes on.
However the reality is still very modest, Wikipedia’s definition of a Smart City is ‘Cities using digital technologies to enhance performance and well being, to reduce costs and resource consumption, and to engage more effectively and actively with its citizens’, so in reality if Indian cities need to get Smart, a load of structural issues need to be solved.
At Zippr, we believe that in the drive for better governance and project execution of such massive initiatives the fundamentals of the system need to be strong and one such piece where we could create impact is with the problem of Addresses. A platform on which many services e.g. Transportation, Logistics, Postal services, Emergency Management, Law & Order, Town Planning, Taxation, Banking, and so on directly rely on.
Introducing Smart Addresses
In our country, a building could have multiple addresses. India’s lack of structured and uniform addresses has always caused chaos and confusion. Keeping track of the ever increasing buildings and utility payments is a major challenge our government faces. Finding a place or giving directions has always been a stressful task for every citizen and of course every postman’s nightmare.
A Smart Address is one such solution which seeks to solve this problem. A ‘Zippr code’ is what we call a Smart Address. It’s an eight character code e.g. RIYA 1234 that replaces your long address, which can be created for any location and shared with anyone hassle- free!
Hyderabad -1st City with Smart Addresses
Hyderabadi’s are known for the way they explain addresses! As amusing as it sounds, it is truly confusing indeed and we are here to change the way they share addresses.
We are proud to announce the Smart Address Initiative in association with GHMC (Greater Hyderbad Municipal Co-operation), which aims to allot every home a Zippr code.
We started off with Sri-Nagar colony and have moved on to other areas and have covered /Zippr’d over 20,000 homes so far, making Hyderabad the first city with smart addresses in India.
Initially, we thought getting homes a zippr would be one part of the campaign and getting people to use it would be another. Much to our surprise, people have already started using Zippr to invite family and friends and to direct customers to their businesses. The response we’ve received has been overwhelming indeed and we couldn’t be happier.
It’s humbling and almost impossible to believe how quickly we’re growing and we’d like to thank all Hyderabadi’s for their enthusiasm and support! The past few months have been nothing but exciting and we at Zippr are passionate about what we do and continue to put in our efforts to solve India’s address challenge.
